The Team Volunteer at The Red Rose Community Farm

The Team Volunteer at The Red Rose Community Farm

On Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April some of our team volunteered at our chosen charity The Red Rose Community Care Farm (part of the Befriending Scheme).

Along with the help of regular Red Rose volunteers Phil and Trevor, some of the team (Sharon, Louise and Jimmy) built a sheep shed and then the others (Sally and Estelle) painted it on Sunday. The sheep can then move into their new field full of fresh grass as they’ve eaten the ground bare in their current enclosure.

They helped to assemble and fill VegTrugs which were purchased from Perrywood using their donated funds. These will be used for the members to grow vegetables and flowers which they will use for the animals, to sell from the roadside stall at the farm and a local market and also to supply a local restaurant.

Louise mowed the lawn and then the team also put together some raised beds that will be used in the growing house.

“We all thoroughly enjoyed our day at the Red Rose Community Care Farm. Our day started with a tour of the farm which included meeting the animals, before settling down to work. The highlight of my day was witnessing a quail chick hatching! The team were very friendly and we all worked hard to get as much done as possible. Having previously visited, I know the Befriending Scheme provides members with an opportunity to socialise, be outdoors and achieve a great sense of purpose. You just have to witness their smiles to understand how much they enjoy their time on the farm. I highly recommend volunteering, it’s a fabulous feeling knowing you’ve been helpful to a brilliant cause.” – Louise (Senior Communications Manager).

If you would like to volunteer why not get in contact via their website.
